Looking across the Singapore River at Clarke Quay | A bumboat, popular with tourists like us ☺ | We met with Howard for dinner. He recommended this excellent Japanese restaurant specializing in ramen. | Unfortunately Howard didn’t have time to hang out with us after dinner (and we were disappointed Nan wasn’t even able to join us even for dinner). So after eating, we were on our own. | We headed over to the bumboats to get a ride; this is where we wait for the next boat. On the way, we happened past a vendor selling all kinds of LED toys, where each boy got to choose one. | Clarke Quay is the “party quay”. They even have a Burger King nightclub (no kidding!). |
Bumboats, coming and going | All aboard! | The Singapore River at night is very scenic, and the bumboats are a fun way to take in the sights | A view of Santouka, where we had dinner, from the river | Lots of lanterns | Approaching a bend in the river, where the historic Fullerton Hotel sits |
The building, built in the 1920’s, used to be the General Post Office, along with other government offices | After extensive renovation and restoration, the building was reopened as a hotel in 2001 | The boat ride continues into Marina Bay, around which the downtown skyscrapers all seem to be crowded | If you compare this photo carefully with the previous one, you’ll see that one of the buildings has changed color. It happens to more buildings than perhaps you’d expect. ☺ | The Marina Bay Sands casino and resort | The Singapore Flyer, towering over the East Coast Parkway bridge |
Theatres on the Bay | The Asian Civilisation Museum | Heading back past Clarke Quay | The flying lights that I had been puzzling over, turned out at least some were flown near Clarke Quay at Riverside Point Park, so we went to watch | Looking down the river from one of the bridges | In the middle of the Clarke Quay shops was a very popular fountain |
